Mauna Keratea Observatory
My observatory is located in my country house in city of Keratea at a distance of 50 Km from Athens. The light pollution of the area is a medium rate, having a very dark East & South sky and enough dark sky at North and zenith. At the West with the light of Athens the light pollution is intense until 50 degree.
The observatory was construction by personal work and by amateur astronomer’s friends. The observatory is composed of two compartments. The Dome compartment diameter 2,60 meters in a area of 3x3 meters and the office compartment dimension 1,5x3 meters. The construction took place in winter of 2008-09 during our free time and mostly in weekends. The observatory’s name Mauna Keratea was given spontaneously as a paraphrase of the Mauna Kea in Hawaii.
You can find the details with writing and photos of the construction at the attachment pdf file (only in greek) that was written for the 6th National Annual Conference of Greek amateur Astronomers at 2009 in Alexandroupolis. I ‘ll be glad to provide any additional information to any amateur astronomer request.
